2021 Art Lectures

The next lecture for your diaries is:

A Provocative Beauty – the art of Grayson Perry by Frank Woodgate Tuesday the 20th April on Zoom at 6.45 for 7pm

Grayson Perry, who won the Turner Prize in 2003, is close to becoming a ‘National Treasure’. His beautiful, finely-crafted pottery, which frequently has a sting in the tail, and his colourful, imaginative and often amusing tapestries are enormously popular in the fine art world.

Initially considered as something of a rebel, he is now an acknowledged member of the Establishment. He has exhibited in the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, was appointed a Royal Academician and delivered the Reith lectures for the BBC in 2013.

In this lecture, we will look at his work in some detail, as well as considering his cross- dressing alter ego, Claire, and his fondness for his childhood teddy bear, Alan Measles.

The lecture is free on zoom for all art group members.

AGM

I am sorry to announce that we will not hold an AGM in the Art Studio this year; I know you all enjoy the sausages on sticks, peanuts and wine; but Covid-19 restrictions will not permit them this year!

You will be pleased to learn that the Art Group continues to be vibrant and financially healthy, carrying out our objective of ‘enabling Members to enjoy, appreciate and participate in the visual arts’.

I will circulate a Highlights Package of 2020 at the end of March for you to enjoy.

In the meantime, if you see one of the Art Group or Finance Committees at the Club then do thank them, from two metres, for their skills and hard work.
