2021 Art Group Lectures

The next lecture to put in your diaries is on zoom at 7pm on Tuesday the 16th March:
Vermeer – Girl with The Pearl Earring by Lucrezia Walker

Voted by the Dutch the most beautiful painting in the Netherlands, the sitter’s true identity is unknown, and has been the subject of much speculation and several books.
Painted by Jan Vermeer in 1665 it is possibly the most famous of the relatively few works we have of this great artist of the Dutch Golden
Age. His reputation disappeared in the decade after his death and his fame rests on its 19th century revival.

Lucrezia Walker studied in Venice and Perugia and has lived and worked in Rome. She is a lecturer at the National Gallery and teaches the London Art History Programme for the University of North Carolina.
Lucrezia was previously Galleries Correspondent for The Tablet and Lay Canon (Visual Arts) at St Paul’s Cathedral, where she continues to serve on the Visual Arts Committee.
She is the author of several books on 19th and 20th century artists and art movements and wrote a Guide to Art in Paris for Studio Editions.

The lecture is free on zoom for all Art Group members.
