Chairman’s Message

Member Survey 2022

Firstly, can I thank all the Members who completed the survey. It was a little long we know but with our multi sports club having so many facets we needed the feedback to inform any refinements that may be appropriate to our Development Masterplan 2035 and strategy as well as help us to improve our day-to-day operation.

1,300 completed surveys represent a 36% response rate valid to a 95% confidence level meaning the results to specific question would not change by more than +/- 2.2% if every adult member had responded. This is very valuable and representative feedback.

Highlights include:

♦  94% feel the Club is meeting your expectations

♦  The NPS (likelihood of recommending the Club) score has risen from 39 to 42 since 2018

♦  Only 11% feel that the Club is not fulfilling its vision of being London’s premier multi sports Club and only 5% think that it isn’t the right vision to have which is a great re-endorsement of our collective

♦  93% feel that the Club communicates effectively which is one of the highest in our benchmark set of 200 multi sport clubs worldwide

♦  Satisfaction with the Club’s food and beverage operation since 2018 and again since the 2021 mini survey has increased

♦  Our swimming and Security operations have improved the most since 2018 with other teams maintaining their levels of excellence over the last four years.

I’d like to compliment the staff in their separate teams for the excellent results recorded. Management is now working on operational plans to make marginal gains in all areas with the aim to have an all-green scorecard.

Capital Development Project preferences:

The capital projects with the most support are all linked to improving the sociability of the Clubhouse for all:

♦  A bar terrace extension overlooking the gardens

♦  Extending the Club café to overlook the piazza and tennis courts

♦  Increased social area for Members on the ground floor

Our Property Development Committee (PDC) is working on designing these projects currently with assistance from Architects ADP and planning consultants LUC. It is also awaiting designs on upgrading the Clubhouse changing rooms which featured on the Member wish list. The Board has already set up a Golf Practice Group (GPG) to focus on a new Indoor Golf Centre and Sports Shop which Wandsworth Planners like the look of.

So, all in all the Board is comforted that we are working on the right track in our Masterplan reflecting Member views whilst carefully managing our funds to afford any progress we make.

Listening and Communicating

As ever, we’ll continue to look at how we communicate with each other; not just the Board and management with Members, but with the sections, committees, and forums … and we’ll also work on the social atmosphere of the Club – but here Members have a critical role to play, by making constructive criticisms and suggestions just as our Health Club plus Young and Senior Member Forums have done so over the last year.

Planning Permission Granted

I am pleased to report that the Club has received planning permission for its fencing scheme on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes on the golf course. Once erected this fencing will go a long way to fulfil our duty of care in preventing stray golf balls leaving the property onto Clarence and Priory Lanes and into neighbouring properties.

Electronic Annual Report and Accounts

We recently sent a letter along with the 2021 Annual Report and Accounts, followed up with an email, to shareholders asking for their permission to receive future Annual Report and accounts mailings electronically. Thank you to those who have responded but if you have not, please check your junk folder for the email and respond to let us know that you agree to the Company’s request to send or supply documents and information for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006 in electronic form. If you cannot find the email or letter, please email membership@roehamptonclub.co.uk for a copy.

New Directors

The AGM takes place on Monday 23rd May at 7.30pm and we hope many shareholders will be able to attend. Those present will be asked to ratify the election of three new Directors – Caroline Nettel, Michael Hill and Andrew Walker plus the re-election of Joy Stevens.

Farewell

This is my last message as Chairman to appear in the Recorder. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served our wonderful Club as a Director and as Chairman. It has been a pleasure to work with a great Board and a dedicated and superlative management team. I have enjoyed the interactions that I have had with many of our staff who do such a good job around the Club. Whilst there have been ups and downs, not all has gone smoothly, I step down confident of the Club’s future which is in good hands. Lastly, I thank you, my fellow Members, for your patience and support.

Best wishes,

Alan
