Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

Following the Government’s recent announcement that most legal restrictions and guidance will be lifted in England from Monday 19th July we are planning to open up as many areas of the Club as possible that week. Confirmation of the lifting of restrictions won’t be given until the 12th July so we will give a final update next week.

With the very good news that England are in the final of Euro 2020 we will be keeping the Members Bar open until the end of the Final on Sunday 11th July. So, please come and enjoy England’s first major final since 1966. Some Members will remember Sir Geoff Hurst talking about that memorable day at Wembley when he visited the Club three years ago.

Please click here for the planned opening times for our food and beverage outlets including Executive Chef Arnaud’s new Pizza selection from the Poolside Barbecue. Last night’s first Wednesday Club night barbecue of the year was well received and these will continue through the summer.

COVID-19 – safe rather than sorry

While it is very good news that restrictions are likely to be lifted soon Club staff are still going to wear face coverings in close contact areas to both protect themselves and Members alike. We have four staff having to isolate at present (including myself) which is frustrating but necessary to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Infections are still rising and will continue to rise this summer. We are able to cover staff shortages currently but if cases rise significantly we will struggle and the service to Members will inevitably suffer. So please be respectful of staff who want to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing as we all want them to be here at the Club working and not stuck at home ill or isolating.

If children and families have been told to isolate up to the 19th July can they please respect that and resist the temptation to visit the Club as was spotted last weekend.

These two new Forums have had their first meetings and the Chairman and I would like to thank both group of Members for their contributions to improving the culture and awareness of the Club for both sections of adult members.

Joe Salisbury at Wimbledon

Today is a big day for Joe as he plays two matches on No 1 Court. First, in the Men’s Doubles semi final and then later in the Mixed Doubles Quarter final. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for him to reach a Wimbledon final this weekend.

Congratulations to Arthur Fery and Cam Norrie for their excellent runs in the mixed doubles and men’s singles respectively. Naomi Broady who plays for our women’s first team this year is also still in the Mixed Doubles competition.

Congratulations also to our Men’s and Women’s first teams who have qualified to play in the National Club Finals in September. The men’s team won the South East Division and will look to defend their national title while the women came second in their division and are back in the top flight again after winning the National title in 2012.

So an exciting weekend of sport in prospect followed by a week of careful planning to be able to finally open up all areas of our Club. Thank you for your patience so far and let’s hope the sun shines so we can try to emulate Joe Salisbury on our grass courts!

Best wishes,
Marc
